Sony WF-1000XM5 Leak: What We Know So Far
If you’re a fan of Sony’s WF-1000XM4 noise-cancelling earbuds, you’ll be excited to hear about the upcoming Sony WF-1000XM5. A recent leak from The Walkman Blog has given us a sneak peek at what we can expect from the new earbuds.
Design
According to the leak, the Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds will have a more compact, rounded shape than their predecessors. The left earbud will feature a microphone array, and the earbuds will be manufactured in China. While the glossy plastic pictured in the leak doesn’t look as premium as the matte black version of the WF-1000XM4, we hope that the final product will have an upgraded design.
Charging Case
The Sony WF-1000XM5 charging case will also have a more rounded shape than the WF-1000XM4 case, and will feature a two-pin charging mechanism instead of the three-pin system on the XM4 case. The case will also have a more powerful 5V = 230mA specification, which should result in faster earbud charging than the XM4 case’s 5V = 140mA specification. The case will have a standard LED dot on the front instead of the thin LED on the XM4 case. The case will also have a wireless charging coil that works with Qi, just like the WF-1000XM4 case.
Teardown
The leak also includes a teardown of the WF-1000XM5 earbuds, which reveals several identifiable parts:
- Contacts for a wireless antennae and touch sensor
- MEMS microphone
- Contacts for the speaker driver
- Contacts for another speaker driver
- Proximity sensor
- MEMS microphone
